In the Fall business plan competition sponsored by the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital (EVC) Program at NYU Law, Stefan Raicevic LLM ’23 and Milica Skaro LLM ’22 have been named grand prize winners for a pitch centering on ReThink, a proposed recycling/upcycling facilitation app to help users thoughtfully dispose of unwanted clothing.
This semester’s competition focused on the climate technology field—business ideas focused on developing solutions to understand, mitigate, or combat climate change challenges. Participants submitted their pitches via one-to-two-minute video presentations and written proposals.
Racicevic’s and Skaro’s business plan for ReThink envisions a mobile application to help consumers reuse, restyle, and recycle clothes, prolonging garments’ lifecycle and reducing textile waste. The team offered an example of the app’s potential to “rethink” a garment’s fate in a way that will curb waste: if a user uploads a photo of an old shirt, the app will provide options to reuse, restyle, and recycle the item. These options include do-it-yourself instructions to repurpose the fabric into a new garment, a map to access textile recycling spots, an in-app platform to resell the shirt at a discounted price, and more.
Launched in 2018 with donor support, the Entrepreneurship and Venture Capital Program (formerly the NYU Law Venture Fund) encourages entrepreneurship by NYU Law students and alumni through grants and internships, networking events, and early-stage investments, among other initiatives. This competition was made possible by the generous support of the NYU Law EVC jury, a group of NYU Law alumni who are leaders in the entrepreneurial and venture capital space.
